A day after the marriage of his daughter

Gauranga Babu keeps both his legs on the chair while sitting- the position itself speaks of the tiredness of both lower limbs. Its a day after the marriage and he's getting mentally prepared to move to Chhunu's in-law/s village some 150 KMs away the next day morning to attend the reception there. Posted by Picasa

Serious matter of bees and bee-hive

During the whole period of marriage what was ignored was the frequent accidents of relatively larger flies to the halogen lighting system of the video man- almost 4 times if I remember right. But with marriage over and sun shining when we tried to recline on chairs we noticed a number of bees hovering around the tube light in the temporay shade made for the marrige above us and almost making a bee-hive of more than the size of a cricket ball around the hanging starter of the tube-light. When it was first detected by the video man it made a few of us to run away and we later realised what bigger tube-lights we were in the audience down the tube above. Posted by Picasa

Gifting

Providing gifts to bride and groom is an international custom and so also in Orissa where its called vandapana. And starting the process was none other than the octagenerian gard-ma of Chhunu with chanting of shlokas and . The rest of vandapana was shifted to inside the house. Posted by Picasa

Blessings

Its exactly 5 AM in the morning and the morning sun was emiting its first rays when the marriage was over. Its now time for blessings. Posted by Picasa

Garlanding

The vice-versa. The bride now garlands the bride. But then varanmala was never a typical Oriya tradition in marriages. This is an adaptation priests are now allowing to fulfil a popular demand of clients under the influence of the Hindi movies. Many happy wishes to Chhunu and Prashant. Posted by Picasa

Getting ready for garlanding

Not a traditional ritual in Oriya Hindu marriage this act is getting strongly into modern marriges as much as the sherwani-kurta dresse code for grooms but thn every culture adapts to innovations and the priests now find ways and means to incorporate garlanding in its Hindi Movie form.
Both of them seem to be getting ready for the act. Posted by Picasa

Here the groom holds the right foot of the bride on the shilapuaa but with this act they both look to be less sleepy. Posted by Picasa

Look closely at what the groom has to do with his right hand. He keeps the grinder rod- shilapua on the ground and brings the bride's right foot on it. Posted by Picasa
